This week I hang out with author, podcaster, and music producer Jesse Cannon. Jesse told me about his beginnings writing for punk ‘zines and engineering music in his teens. He was nice enough to answer all my fan-boy questions about working on Leftover Crack’s “Fuck World Trade” album, walked me through his time managing Man Overboard and writing his incredible book “Get More Fans: The DIY Guide To The New Music Business,” and told the story of how he accidentally created the “Defend Pop Punk” movement. Throughout, we went on tangents about the music business, punk rock culture, the cyclical nature of popularity in music, and hipsters.
